Vitamin D is a vitamin obtained from sun exposure, a few foods, and many dietary supplements. In proper amounts, vitamin D plays a role in the prevention of osteomalacia and osteoporosis in adults and rickets in children. Vitamin D deficiency can result from inadequate exposure to sunlight, malabsorption, and accelerated catabolism from certain medications.

Vitamin D supplementation has been suggested to have a role in the treatment and prevention of various conditions, although research is still ongoing. Are you familiar with key aspects of vitamin D deficiency, as well as guidelines for proper intake and conditions related to the deficiency? Test your knowledge with this short quiz.
