Target Audience and Goal Statement

This activity is intended for neurologists, nurse practitioners (NPs), and nurses involved in the care of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS).

The goal of this activity is that learners will be better able to diagnose and comprehensively manage the symptoms of MS.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will:

  • Have increased knowledge regarding the
    • McDonald criteria for the diagnosis of MS 
    • Factors that impact the selection of an initial disease-modifying therapy (DMT) for the management of MS
    • Clinical data for pharmacotherapies for the management of progressive forms of MS 
    • Mechanistic differences between progressive and relapsing/refractory forms of MS 
    • Common symptomatic manifestations of MS 
    • Therapeutic options for the management of specific symptomatic manifestations of MS 
  • Have increased confidence when collaborating with
    • The interprofessional team to manage specific symptomatic manifestations of MS 
  • Have greater competence related to
    • Utilizing the McDonald criteria for the diagnosis of MS
    • Personalizing the initial selection of a DMT for the management of MS
