Target Audience and Goal Statement

This activity is intended for nephrologists, cardiologists, primary care providers, nurses, and pharmacists.

The goal of this activity is that learners will be better able to manage chronic kidney disease (CKD)-related hyperkalemia, learn about new evidence and guidance for initiating appropriate treatment, educate their patients, and plan long-term, team-based patient follow-up after discharge. 

Upon completion of this activity, participants will:

  • Have increased knowledge regarding the
    • Gaps in patient discharge on long-term potassium management after an acute hyperkalemic episode
    • Safety and efficacy of newer potassium binders in the management of hyperkalemia
    • Strategies for effective team-based patient discharge to improve patient outcomes in the management of CKD-related hyperkalemia
