Target Audience and Goal Statement

This activity is intended for primary care physicians, obstetricians, gynecologists, and pediatricians. 

The goal of this activity is to help learners appreciate the high prevalence of cytomegalovirus (CMV) in the United States and how that contributes to the considerable public and private burdens of congenital CMV and to equip them with the information needed to educate patients who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant about CMV risks and risk-prevention strategies.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will:

  • Have increased knowledge regarding the
    • Public and individual health burden of CMV 
    • Public health interventions for preventing the spread of CMV 
  • Demonstrate greater confidence in their ability to
    • Use a care-team approach to shared decision-making in relation to CMV
