OVERVIEW

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common sustained cardiac arrhythmia worldwide. Data show that mortality associated with AF is highest in the first year following initial diagnosis. Thus, the first months following diagnosis may be the time when AF exerts many detrimental effects in patients. Yet the question remains as to whether early and comprehensive rhythm control therapy has the potential to prevent adverse outcomes in patients with AF. In this CME-certified live discussion, Drs Jonathan Piccini, John Camm, and Carina Blomström-Lundqvist will review recent clinical and real-world data on early rhythm control in AF, and discuss the clinical implications of new data and guidelines on the choice of rhythm control therapy.
